Travel to and Within the Islands
Air Travel
The nearest airport is just outside Stornoway, approximately an hour's drive from Croft Cottage. Several airlines offer routes from the Scottish mainland to Stornoway airport:
- Highland Airways fly between Stornoway and Inverness;
- British Airways fly between Stornoway and Glasgow, Inverness and Edinburgh
- Eastern Airways fly between Stornoway and Aberdeen;
All these mainland airports offer a wide range of flights all over the UK and beyond.
Vehicle Ferries
Caledonian MacBrayne run a number of vehicle ferry routes both between the Western Isles and to the Scottish mainland. You can choose to travel to Ullapool and take the ferry to Stornoway, or go over the Skye bridge to get to Uig, Skye, and take the ferry to Tarbert.
Car Hire
Lewis Car Rental is based in Stornoway and can deliver cars to the airport or to the ferry terminal in Stornoway. MacKinnon Self Drive has a wide range of cars available for hire, and can supply a car at the airport through Stornoway Car Hire.
